Only here (2016) is a hindrance and introspective post-apocalyptic thriller that explores survival, isolation and human value, which is destroyed by a deadly virus. Directed by Rod Blackhurst, the film is followed by Ann (Lucy Walters), a single surviving desert navigation after the mysterious plague was distinguished by much of humanity and makes the infected a violent, zombie.
Unlike traditional Zombie films that focus on action and hill, there is only a quieter, more meditative approach. The story develops with the blend of today’s survival and flashbacks, which reveal the tragic past of the language, gradually painting a picture of loss, sadness and durability. Lucy Walters produces a frustrating, emotional performance, reflects the struggle of language to maintain hope in complete solitude.
The film’s cinema is beautifully conquered by the tranquility of the abandoned world to emphasize the insulation of language using natural landscapes. The pace is deliberately slow, more focusing on the development of characters and in the atmosphere than to jump or to act high. When the tension arises, it feels raw and mediocre, making the film’s horror elements even more influenced.
Although here alone, one may not satisfy the audience looking for a traditional zombie thriller, its emotional depth and the profitable story of thinking make it a survival genre. It is a deeply human fairy tale with a hopeless need for durability, trauma and union in the world that no longer offers it.
